Summer Camp

School of the Arts 2010 Summer Camps

Our camps are scheduled for Monday thru Thursday, 2 to 3 hours in duration. All camps are scheduled to start at 10:00 am. Camp fees are based on duration of camp and supply costs. Instructors are all local artists and teachers. We invite children ages 8—13 years of age. Maximum of 10 students per camp.

Summer Camp 1 Mixed Media with Kelly Cameron
June 14-June 17 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Children are encouraged to create freely through a variety of media including painting, drawing, collage, and printmaking. Create a book, a journal, or a piece of two-dimensional art suitable for framing. Bring any found objects from home that you may want to incorporate into your art. (example-small shells, interesting papers, piece of fabric, a twig etc…)

Fee: Member-$75, Non-member-$85


Summer Camp 2 Clowning, Moving and Mask Making with KT Childress
June 21-June 24 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Many of you will remember the last production of the Center Players called Zambezi Rhythms involving elaborate costumes and animal masks. KT was the mask maker for that event. From games to “tribes” to masks, this camp is destined to be very interesting. Check out KT’s website: www.ktchildress.com for examples of her work.

Fee: Member $100, Non-member $110

 

Summer Camp 3 Art with Margie Sawyer
July 12-July 15 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
A wonderful art camp featuring various media, including pen, colored pencil, pastels and colored charcoals. Led by local artist Margie Sawyer, “A different theme every day!”

Fee: Member $60, Non-member $70

 

Summer Camp 4 Famous “Forgeries with Deb Watts
July 19 to July 22 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
How cool is it to learn about famous artists and then create your own “masterpiece: based on their style. We will study Seurat, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse and Van Gogh and then create art in various medias. Led by Deb Watts who comes to us from the Tidewater area where she taught art at schools in Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

Fee: Member $75, Non-member $85

 

Summer Camp 5 Drawing with Nancy Hoover
August 2 to August 5 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Drawing is the basis for all other media. Learning to draw improves your ability in other media as well as in other creative fields. This class camp will concentrate on developing drawing skills through various techniques. Led by local artist Nancy Hoover.

Fee: Member $60, Non-member $70

 

Center Players-Summer Edition
Cheryl Blackwelder will introduce 5 Center Players to the thrill of fly-by-the-seat of your pants children’s theatre. We will spend the first 4 days rehearsing and perfecting a show for young children. The fifth day we will go out into the community and perform our show live. Anything can and will happen. Maximum of 5 Students.
